Box Score

Millersville, Pa. –
The Millersville women's volleyball team snapped a four-match losing streak and evened its record to 4-4 overall after defeating non-conference opponent University of the Sciences 3-1 Wednesday evening in Pucillo Gymnasium. The Marauders won by scores of 25-17, 25-18, 22-25, 25-16.

Millersville jumped to an early 8-4 lead in the first set and never let the Devils (1-1) take the lead. After a tie at 13-13 off of a kill from USP's Cady Rich, the Marauders answered with nine-straight points and cruised to an eventual set victory.

Both clubs struggled offensively throughout the set. Millersville posted a .032 attack percentage and the Devils totaled -.152. Only two USP players tallied kills—Rich with three and Lauren Mobley with one. Five Marauders chipped in kills and the team put up three blocks total.

The squads went tally-for-tally in the second set, knotting the score six separate times. The Devils would not come within more than two, however, after Millersville took the lead at 15-12 with a USP attack error. The Marauders saw two kills apiece from Jesse Miller, Jessica Franz and Alyssa Ott in the set win.

Millersville was inefficient offensively in the third set, with Allison Huss being the only player to post a positive attack percentage (.375). After falling behind 6-2, USP took advantage of the slumping Marauder attack and totaled six-straight points to take an 8-6 lead.

The Devils wouldn't surrender the lead for the rest of the set until the clubs tied again at 18-18. Despite exchanging scores for the remainder of action, USP held onto the advantage and won its only set of the evening by three points.

In the final set Millersville took an immediate 5-0 lead and never looked back. The Devils came within three—their closest margin—on three separate occasions but could not connect offensively. Only three USP players recorded kills and the Devils posted a -.133 attack percentage as a team as the Marauders rolled to a nine-point set victory.

USP's Sarah Hickman tallied team highs with 20 assists and nine digs on the night. Rich chipped in six kills and posted five blocks.

Huss led all scorers with 13 kills. Franz put up 18 assists, eight digs and four kills, while Ott knocked down seven kills and totaled five blocks.

Millersville travels to Lock Haven this weekend for four Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) crossover matches. The Marauders take on Slippery Rock and Clarion on Friday, Sept. 17, followed by Indiana (Pa.) and California (Pa.) on Saturday, Sept. 18.
