Erie, Pa. – The Millersville women's volleyball team dropped two Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference crossover matches to Mercyhurst and Gannon Friday afternoon in Erie. With the losses the Marauders' three-match win streak was snapped, and they dropped to 10-12 overall and 1-8 PSAC.
The Marauders dropped the first match of the afternoon to the Lakers 3-1 by scores of 25-20, 20-25, 25-16, 25-21. Mercyhurst (15-5, 7-2) and Millersville kept a tight score for the first half of the first set, exchanging points back and forth. The Lakers held a slight advantage at 13-12 but pulled away and scored the nine of the next 11 points to take a 22-14 lead and eventually the win in the set.
The Marauders flipped the scores to win the second set, slamming down 11 kills and committing only six errors. Mercyhurst posted a -.030 attack percentage in the loss. The Lakers rebounded and dominated set three, defeating Millersville by nine points.
In the final set of the match the Marauders found themselves down 18-11, but
Katie Pisano served her team to an 18-18 tie. The squads traded scores up to 21-21, but Mercyhurst racked up the next four points to win the set and the match.
Allison Huss registered eight kills and Jesse Miller added seven.
Jessica Franz put up 14 assists while Pisano recorded 13.
In the second match of the day the Marauders were edged by host Gannon 3-0 by scores of 25-19, 25-16, 27-25.
In the first set the clubs recorded four lead changes and eight tie scores, the last coming at 16-16. The Golden Knights (11-5, 6-3 PSAC) took control, however, accumulating nine of the next 12 points to win the set.
The Marauders struggled in the second set and recorded only seven kills to their four errors. Gannon boasted a .312 attack percentage to take the set by a nine-point margin.
Down by five points in the third set at 18-13, Millersville tallied five-straight points to bring the team within one. The two squads went back and forth with points and knotted the score at 25-25, sending the set into extra points.
After an MU attack error and a Gannon kill, the Golden Knights nabbed the set and swept the Marauders by three sets.
Alyssa Ott led the Marauder offense 10 kills and Huss chipped in eight. Pisano racked up 15 assists and Franz added 13.
Brittany Lease collected 15 digs.
Millersville returns to conference crossover action on Saturday with a 3:30 p.m. match up with Edinboro.
