East Stroudsburg, Pa. – The Millersville women's volleyball team split two road matches Saturday afternoon, finishing 1-1 at Koehler Fieldhouse in East Stroudsburg. The Marauders swept the host Warriors 3-0 for the second time this season, before falling to Stonehill 3-2 in five sets.
Millersville (12-17, 2-12 PSAC) fought through a tough match with conference opponent East Stroudsburg (8-22, 3-12 PSAC) in its first contest of the day. The Marauders did not win a set by more than four points.
The Warriors took the first set into extra points, but Millersville was able to pull out a 27-25 win. The second and third sets were nearly just as close with the Marauders edging ESU 25-22 and 25-21.
Rebecca Roman and Jesse Miller paced Millersville's offense with eight kills apiece.
Mary Paul,
Allison Huss,
Kelsey Gearhart and
Devin Fortney all chipped in six kills.
Katie Pisano put up 20 assists and
Jessica Franz added 19. The Marauders stepped up as a collective defensive front, with five players tallying double-digit digs.
Sue Caramanico led with 25 digs, Huss added 23 and Fortney posted 21. Franz and Gearhart totaled 13 and 12 digs, respectively.
In their second match of the day, the Marauders dropped a non-conference match to Stonehill, flip-flopping set wins throughout the contest. The Skyhawks (10-10) pulled away with a 27-25 win in the first set before Millersville rebounded for a 25-23 win in the second.
Stonehill answered in the third set with a 25-22 edge, followed by a Marauder response with identical scores. The Skyhawks pulled away in the fifth set with a 15-10 victory to secure the match.
Huss boasted a team-high 12 kills in the five sets, while Paul put up eight and Roman and
Brittany Lease each tallied seven kills. Pisano tallied 24 assists for the Marauders and Franz put up 15.
Katie Galuska collected a team-high 36 digs, as Huss followed with 22 and Franz with 19.
Millersville returns home on Tuesday, Oct. 26 to host a non-conference match up with Holy Family. Action is slated for 7 p.m.
