Marauders Drop Four-Set Match to Shippensburg

Shippensburg, Pa. – The Millersville women's volleyball team won the first set to take a 1-0 lead over Shippensburg Tuesday evening, but the Lady Raiders rallied to win the next three sets and nab a 3-1 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference victory from the Marauders at Heiges Field House. Millersville dropped the match by scores of 22-25, 25-22, 25-13, 25-23.

Shippensburg (11-13, 4-9 PSAC) quickly jumped out to a 7-2 lead early in the first set, but Millersville (10-14, 1-10 PSAC) tallied 12 of the next 17 points to go on top 14-12. The squads took turns scoring throughout the set, but the Marauders maintained their advantage and never allowed the Lady Raiders to regain control.

Set two followed suit of the first, as Shippensburg and Millersville continued to battle. The Lady Raiders went on several scoring runs including a seven-point stretch to take an 18-11 lead midway through the set.

The Marauders went on streaks of their own, closing in on Ship at 23-20. Both clubs registered two more points, but it was the Lady Raiders who narrowly pulled away with the win.

Millersville struggled to score in the third set, producing a -.190 attack percentage, registering three kills and seven errors. Shippensburg recorded a match-high .364 hitting mark in the set to seal the win by 12 points.

Down 2-1 heading into the fourth set, the Marauders notched the first three points of the set and kept hold of the lead for the majority of the match until the Lady Raiders knotted the score at 18-18.

Millersville, again, held a two-point advantage at 23-21, but Shippensburg rallied to score four consecutive points and steal the set from the Black and Gold.

Allison Huss led the Marauders with a double-double, registering team highs with 10 kills and 16 digs. Katie Pisano put up 13 assists while Jessica Franz added 11.

Sue Caramanico and Katie Galuska collected 15 and 10 digs respectively. Alyssa Ott boasted three blocks for Millersville.

Tonight wrapped up a nine-match road stretch for the Marauders. The club returns home on Friday, Oct. 15 to host conference opponent West Chester at 7 p.m., in Pucillo Gymnasium.
