Shippensburg, Pa. - Millersville's Drew Slocum and Preetham Moras can now say they form the best doubles team in the PSAC. The Marauder duo topped Bloomsburg's top team Sunday afternoon in Shippensburg to claim the PSAC Men's Doubles Championship.
Slocum and Moras reached the finals with an 8-4 win over Mercyhurst on Saturday, and on Sunday, they defeated Ricky Dove and Mark Schroeder by an 8-5 score to become the first PSAC Champions of Coach Shari Bucklin-Webber's tenure.
The tandem has a 6-1 record following the championships. The title was also a breakthrough for Slocum, who has quietly pieced together a memorable Millersville career. The former PSAC Rookie of the Year was one-half of the 2009 doubles runner-up.
For Moras, it was his first PSAC Championship event. He transferred to Millersville from Winthrop in the offseason.
Moras also entered Sunday's competition with a shot at the conference singles title. He drew top-seeded Keith Whittingham of Mercyhurst in the semifinals. Moras fell in a first-set tiebreaker, 7-8 (7-6) and dropped the second set, 8-2. Whittingham finished as the runner-up to Dove of Bloomsburg.
