Bloomsburg, Pa. — Drew Slocum and Andrew Sorgi advanced to the quarterfinals in the men's doubles draw of the ITA Atlantic Regional, as the Millersville men's and women's tennis teams competed in singles and doubles matches on Saturday.
Play was shortened due to inclement weather, but Millersville athletes managed to get most of their matches in. Slocum and Sorgi defeated Kutztown's Cameron O'Donnell and Bobby Zerwick 8-4 to advance. They will now face Bloomsburg's Brandon Cummings and Seth Rybak on Sunday, with a semifinal berth on the line.
In men's singles, Henry Ben defeated Bloom's Kyle Coliluori in straight sets (6-3, 6-3), before falling to Fabien Mevs from Fairmont State, 7-6 (3), 6-4, in the second round.
The only other Marauder to advance past the first round on Saturday was from the women's team. Melissa Plowman knocked off Sarah Fisher, also from Bloomsburg, 6-1, 6-3 in the first round. Plowman, like Ben on the men's side, fell in the second round. Slippery Rock's Laura Handy dealt the freshman a 6-0, 6-3 setback in the second round.
Action continues at Bloomsburg on Sunday and wraps up on Monday.
