Millersville, Pa. -- The Millersville University women's tennis team took just two matches Tuesday in its loss to the West Chester Golden Rams. The Marauders are 7-9 overall, 1-2 in conference play and are 2-3 in 2009.
Despite the final score, the Marauders had a few close singles matches. Freshman Samantha Prager took a first-set tie-breaker from West Chester's Maria Kostaris, but eventually fell 7-6 (7-1), 1-6, 4-6.
Sophomore Kaeley McCabe also forced her opponent, Kara Shumock, to a third set after taking the second. McCabe fell 3-6, 6-4, 2-6.
Senior Jenny Habecker had the lone singles victory for the Marauders, beating Bridget Doughtery decisively 7-5, 6-2.
In doubles, Prager and junior Andrea Konas defeated the Golden Ram team of Claire Afrassabian and Doughtery in a single 8-4 set. The teams had agreed to single eight-game minimum sets in doubles play and the two final singles matches.
The women take on the Bloomsburg Huskies Wednesday in a make-up match from a Saturday rain-out. The Huskies are nationally ranked and have an 8-3 overall record. The matches start at 2 p.m. on the McComsey courts.
