
Men's Tennis Makes it Eight Straight in West Chester Trouncing

Millersville, Pa. -- The Millersville University men's tennis team dominated West Chester Tuesday, winning 8-1 against its PSAC East rival and extending its amazing winning streak to eight. In beating the Golden Rams, the Marauders are 9-3 overall, 2-0 in conference play and 8-1 in 2009.
During its streak, the Marauders have outscored opponents 61-11 in match play. The Golden Rams, meanwhile fall to 2-10 overall and 0-4 in conference play.
In singles play Tuesday, Sophomore Drew Slocum, handled the No. 1 spot with his usual dominance, defeating West Chester's Jeff Rightnour 6-3, 6-3.
Freshman Donald Swantko had a tough first set against Matt Thomas, but eventually dispatched the Golden Ram 7-5, 6-3.
Millersville junior Andrew Sorgi took care of West Chester's John Howanksi in a close one, needing a second-set tie-breaker to finish the match 6-4, 7-6 (7-5).
In the only loss of the day for the Marauders, West Chester's Alan Day needed three grueling sets to down Millersville senior Mark Treires 6-4, 4-6, 10-5
Freshman Henry Ben returned the Marauders to their winning ways, beating Mike Ensor 8-4, in the single set the teams agreed to ahead of time.
Senior Dusty Speicher ended singles play for Millersville with a decisive win over WCU's Bill Ensor, 8-4.
All three doubles matches were single sets, with an eight game minimum. Millersville took them all, 8-6, 8-2 and 8-3.
Next up for the Marauders will be the Bloomsburg Huskies, who are 7-1 overall and handed Millersville its last loss on March 1. The matches kick off Wednesday at 2 p.m. on the McComsey tennis courts.
