Millersville, Pa.- Despite surpassing three season high marks as a team and four individual season highs, the Millersville women's volleyball team dropped an intense, four-set match to Philadelphia Wednesday night, 3-1.
The Marauders (10-15) dominated the first set, posting a .242 attack percentage, compared to Philadelphia's (20-2) .075 percentage. Additionally, the squad collected 17 digs and 13 assists on its way to a 25-18 first-set win.
Millersville found itself down 10-5 in the beginning of the second set, but quickly rallied. It tallied 14 kills and 28 digs to force the set into extra points, but a hitting error by the Marauders and a late kill by Philadelphia sealed a 27-25 second-set victory for the visitors.
Millersville battled Philadelphia closely in the third and fourth sets as well, falling behind by more than four points just once. The Rams, however, pulled away late for 25-21 wins in both sets. The Rams forced the Marauders into 13 errors in the final two sets combined.
The Marauders tallied season highs in kills with 52 and assists with 50. Senior
Meredith Sinback set a season high with 36 assists on the night. Redshirt freshman
Ami Killinger posted an impressive 13 kills which was a season and match high.
Defensively, the Marauders recorded six blocks as a team in addition to a season high 95 digs. Freshmen Susan Caramanico and
Katie Galuska notched career highs in digs with 18 apiece.
Millersville hosts PSAC crossover action this weekend, beginning Friday, Oct. 9 at 5 p.m.
