Marauders Drop Two in Non-Conference Play

Springfield, Mass. – Finishing its third match in six-match road swing, the Millersville women's volleyball team fell to Franklin Pierce in five sets and was swept by American Internationa, Sunday afternoon in Springfield, Mass.

In a match that lasted a little under two hours, the Marauders (12-24) and Franklin Pierce (7-17) battled into five sets and extra points with the Ravens edging their way to victory. Seven players with with digs and five with kills and Franklin Pierce's six errors helped the Marauders to a first set win by a score of 25-19.

In the second set, however, Millersville gave the Ravens a chance to retaliate as they scored the first 11 points of the set. The Marauders could only close the deficit to nine points, and their -.029 attack percentage allowed Franklin Pierce to garner a 25-13 win.

Millersville, though, collected 26 digs and 17 kills to lead it to a 25-14 third set win. The Marauders took control early in the fourth set as well, but the Ravens tallied five straight points to take the lead and never relinquish it. Committing only two errors, they took the fourth set 25-19.

The fifth set remained even throughout, as the match stood tied on six occasions. A kill by Corrine Marquess took the set into extra points and set Millersville up for match point, but a Franklin Pierce kill tied the set again. Another Raven kill and a Marauder attack error sealed an 18-16 fifth-set win and the match for Franklin Pierce.

The pace of the second match was slightly different as American International swept Millersville in under an hour by scores of 25-9, 25-9 and 25-15.

The Marauders registered as many errors as kills while American International recorded a .444 attack percentage for a 25-9 first set victory. In the second set, the Yellow jackets committed only one error, compared to Millersville's eight and rolled to a 25-9 win. The Yellow Jackets took an early lead in the third set as well. Though the Marauders shorted the deficit to six points, it was not enough. American International recorded 12 blocks by seven players in the 25-15 third set victory.

In the two matches combined, Meredith Sinback totaled 58 assists and 15 digs. Redshirt freshman Ami Killinger recorded a team high 17 kills, and sophomore Allison Huss added 16 kills and 17 assists in the two matches.

The Marauders remain on the road, facing Lock Haven on Friday, Oct. 30 at 6 p.m. and East Stroudsburg on Saturday, Oct. 31 at 2 p.m.
