Volleyball Falls 3-1 at St. Rose

Albany, N.Y. - The Millersville University women's volleyball team took St. Rose into four sets but fell short 3-1 in non-conference play Saturday afternoon in Albany.

St. Rose (13-12) took the first set by a 25-20 margin, but Millersville (12-22) rallied for a second set 25-22 victory to tie the match. The Golden Knights came back to secure the final two sets by scores of 25-21 and 25-16.

St. Rose earned the first seven points of the first set, but a service error and an ace by Jill Toronchuk got the Marauders on the board. Scoring seven straight points, Millersville cut the deficit to three, but the Golden Knights' .235 attack percentage aided them to victory.

St. Rose committed six errors to give the Marauders a 5-0 edge in the second set. The Golden Knights came back to tie the set 10-10. The Marauders recorded three blocks, combined with a negative St. Rose attack percentage, to earn the win.

St. Rose took control early in the third set, collecting four services aces and 11 kills to prevail and take the lead. The Marauders took a short lead in the fourth set, but the Golden Knights scored eight straight points and never looked back. The St. Rose squad solidified the win with 6.5 blocks and a .132 attack percentage to take the set and the match.

Senior Emily Bires tallied a match high three solo blocks and a team high eight kills in addition to her four digs for Millersville. Senior Meredith Sinback recorded 24 assists while adding nine digs and three kills.

The Marauders travel to Springfield, Mass. on Sunday, Oct. 25, where they will face American International and Franklin Pierce. Action is slated for 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
