Women's Tennis Improves to 2-0 with Win at Division I La Salle

Philadelphia, Pa. – With a sweep of all three doubles matches and five victories in six singles matches, the Millersville women's tennis team remained undefeated with a 6-1 defeat of Division I La Salle in Philadelphia Sunday afternoon.
With the win, the Marauders are off to their first 2-0 start since 2005. In the two duals combined, Millersville has won 15 of the 18 matches. It was also the program's first win over a Division I foe since defeating Towson in the fall of 2003.
Because Sunday's dual was played at a Division I member, the three doubles wins counted as only one team point, which is in accordance with Division I rules.
The No. 1 doubles tandem of Andrea Konas and Jenny Habecker earned their first win of the season, defeated Lauren Perry and Victoria Rige, 8-5. Konas later notched her first singles victory of the season as well, fighting from behind to top Perry, 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), 10-6.
Lindsay Knappenberger and Michelle DeStefano remained perfect on the season at No. 2 doubles with an 8-4 win and the freshman duo of Shauna Powers and Samantha Souders rolled to an 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles.
The Marauders were just as impressive in singles action. Knappenberger won handely at No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-2. DeStefano rolled at No. 4 singles to a 6-1, 6-0 victory. Souders won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5 and Powers cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles.
Millersville will look to improve to 3-0 for the first time since 2002 in the the home opener Saturday, Sept. 13 against Shippensburg.
