Millersville , Pa. – The Millersville University women's volleyball team started strong in their match against Kutztown Tuesday night, but the Golden Bears denied the Marauders a season-best three-game winning streak by storming back for a 3-1 victory in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division action at Pucillo Gymansium.
Millersville (4-8, 1-5 PSAC East) jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead thanks to a match-high 15 kills in set one. After Kutztown (11-7, 2-3 PSAC East) evened the match with a 25-16 victory in set two, the visitors took the lead thanks to a come-from-behind, 25-23, victory in set three. A 25-13 score in game four ended the night for the Marauders.
Kutztown tallied a season-best 16 blocks in the match and recorded 52 digs in the impressive defensive showing. Freshman Katie Lutz had a team-high nine blocks while freshman Lindsey Smith finished with 19 digs for the visitors.
Millersville was led by junior outside hitter Emily Bires who recorded 14 kills. Junior setter #Meredith Sinback# provided 17 helpers and 13 digs while teammate Brittany Lease chipped in with 17 assists as well. Senior libero #Laura Navin# led the team in digs with 17.
Millersville will be back on the court this Friday when they travel to West Chester for a PSAC crossover match-up with California ( Pa. ) beginning at 7:15 p.m.
