Marauders Keep Playoff Hopes Alive with 3-0 Win Over East Stroudsburg

Millersville, Pa. – A strong defensive effort by the Millersville University women's volleyball team helped it secure its second Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference victory Saturday afternoon at the team's first “Dig for a Cure” match held at Pucillo Gymnasium.

The Marauders (6-15, 2-7 PSAC East) picked up three blocks apiece from freshman #Allison Huss#, #Hannah Duckworth# and #Gillian Hollen#.  The trio also accounted for nearly half of the team's kills as Huss led the way with seven.  Senior libero #Laura Navin# and junior setter Meredith Sinback provided 27 of the team's 58 kills in the match.

Millersville jumped out of the gate quickly as they built a six-point lead (12-6) in set one. The Marauders extended it to an 11-point advantage (24-13) before settling for a 25-19 win.

MU started slow in the second set but eventually built an 18-10 lead behind the strong play of Sinback.  The team's assist leader picked up three assists, two kills and three digs in the set and eventually led the Marauders to a 25-20 victory in set two.  Sinback finished with six kills, 10 assists and 11 digs.

The third game saw strong net-play from the Marauders as they recorded a match-high 12 kills and three blocks.  With the set tied at 14-14, MU picked up two kills from both Sinback and freshman outside hitter #Devin Fortney# to help the Marauders complete a game-clinching 11-3 run.

The Marauders fell to the Warriors in the two team's first meeting back on September 12 when ESU battled back from a 2-1 deficit to take the match in five sets.  Millersville did not let up this time around as they recorded their fourth shutout victory of the season.

With three Eastern Divison matches remaining on the Marauders schedule, the team sits three games back of fourth place Shippensburg (4-3 PSAC East).

The Marauders will travel to Philadelphia next Thursday to take on the University of the Sciences for a non-conference match beginning at 7 p.m.
