A former Millersville standout who established himself as one of the preeminent high school and hitting coaches in the region, Todd Garber '91/'98M returned to his alma mater as the program's hitting coach prior to the 2027 season.Â
Garber was the high school coach and mentor of Jon Shehan, who led Millersville to more than 600 wins, four PSAC titles and three NCAA regional titles in 18 years. Garber's run from 1996-2012 at Lampeter-Strasburg High School built the program into a juggernaut. He won 250 games, developed 47 future college baseball players and four future pros, including Jeff Bianchi, who played parts of four seasons in Major League Baseball. Garber's Pioneers won two state championships and finished as the PIAA runner-up twice. He oversaw extensive facility improvements and developed a program that extended into the community's youth programs. Garber returned to the program as an assistant coach, focusing on player development and daily instruction from 2024-26.Â
After stepping down as the baseball program's head coach, Garber continued his career as a technology education teacher at Lampeter-Strasburg, and remained entrenched in coaching both baseball and softball players. Garber served as a camp instructor at Millersville and as an assistant softball coach at West chester from 2020-26. He was the Spooky Nook softball coaching director from 2012-20, coordinating and instructing coaches and players from 10U through 23U. He was also the head travel softball coach for 16U, 18U and 23U teams at Spooky Nook from 2012-23.Â
While coaching, Garber also served as a professional scout and ran regional tryout camps, working for the Cincinnati Reds and the Milwaukee Brewers of the course of 16 years. Before entering the high school ranks, Garber was an assistant coach at both Millersville and Franklin & Marshall.Â
As a Marauder, Garber was a four-year starter, leading the team in doubles as a freshman and hitting .402 for All-PSAC East honors in 1990. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in industrial technology in 1991 and later earned a master's degree in technology education in 1998.Â
Garber's wife, Diana, is math instructor at Millersville University. The couple had three daughters play collegiate softball. Bri set the PSAC hits record at West Chester while Hanna and Julz were All-CAA performers at Delaware.
