Bobby Dorta

A 2021 graduate of Millersville University, Bobby Dorta returned to his alma mater prior to the 2024 as a member of the baseball coaching staff.

Overseeing the Marauders' baserunning, Dorta helped the team break the school record for stolen bases and rank seventh nationally. Jeff Sabater led all NCAA players in steals while breaking the PSAC record.

Dorta began his coaching career at Wofford College in 2022. With the Terriers Dorta served as the director of player development in 2022, and volunteer assistant in 2023. He was the assistant pitching coach, responsible for implementing the Synergy video system and assisting the coaching staff with statistical analysis and player development goals.

Dorta's first season with the Terriers saw the squad reach new heights with a 42-16-1 overall record and a 16-4-1 Southern Conference clip. It was the first 40-win season in program history. The Terriers won the regular season SoCon Championship for a second consecutive season and reached the championship series of the SoCon Tournament for the third time before falling to UNCG. Five Terriers earned first team All-Southern Conference honors, including Matthew Marchal, Lawson Hill, John Dempsey, Ryan Galanie and Brennen Dorighi. Hill was tabbed player of the year by the media. Dalton Rhadans and Josh Vitus were selected to the second team, and the All-Freshman Team featured Carter Bailey, Coulson Buchanan and Marshall Toole. Wofford led the league in batting average (.314) and ERA (4.66) and set program records in strikeouts pitched (506), runs scored (485) and RBI (418).

Wofford returned to the 40-win plateau in 2023, going 40-19 on the season with a 12-9 SoCon clip. The Terriers also returned to the SoCon Championship for a second straight year. Ryan Galanie was named SoCon Player of the Year, Wofford's third in a row, and he was joined on the All-SoCon First Team by Lucas Mahlstedt. Coulson Buchanan, Matthew Marchal, Cameron Gill and Dixon Black were honored on the second team. The All-Freshman Team featured Zac Cowan, Branton Little and Charlie Weber. Wofford's .314 batting average was second in the conference and 13th in the nation, and the Terriers topped the conference in ERA with a 5.23 clip. With 2.38 walks allowed per nine innings, Wofford led Division I baseball. The Terriers also topped the nation with 86 sacrifice bunts, a program record.

Dorta has known nothing but winning at the collegiate level. Before joining Wofford, he was a part of five NCAA Tournament teams and two PSAC East titles as a player at Millersville. Dorta made 52 relief appearances in his career and served as a two-way player in 2018 and 2019, hitting .271 in 70 at-bats.

Dorta graduated in 2021 from Millersville with a degree in emergency management. Dorta’s father, Melvin, played professionally for the Washington Nationals.
