Slippery Rock Advances With Overtime Victory Over East Stroudsburg

Millersville, Pa. - Junior forward Jeremy Deighton headed a pass from teammate Toby Bowser past East Stroudsburg goalkeeper Larry Pokrywa just over five minutes into overtime to help the second-seeded Rock eliminate the third-seeded Warriors and advance to the second round of Division II NCAA Tournament.

After the two teams played to a scoreless draw at the end of regulation, East Stroudsburg quickly took control with scoring opportunities on back-to-back corners early in the overtime period.  SRU took advantage of a 3-on-2 situation following a clear of the second corner and sophomore midfielder Mitchell Waters delivered a ball ahead to Bowser.  Bowser dribbled past a defender and crossed a ball directly in front of the ESU net where Deighton was in position for the game-winning header.

Pokrywa made fives saves for ESU with several coming late in the second half on point-blank shots by The Rock.  Slippery Rock keeper Greg Blum made seven saves for the home team.

Slippery Rock will await the winner of the California-Millersville match-up this evening to see who they will play in the second round contest on Sunday.
