Strohecker records second hat trick of season in win over Mansfield

MANSFIELD, Pa. - The Millersville women's soccer team swept the week with a dominant 6-0 victory over Mansfield on Saturday.
The Marauders entered the contest without two key players on the backline, giving sophomore Sara Kaeser and freshman Ka'ena Scott starts in their respective spots.
The absences did not slow Millersville's attack, as the Marauders controlled the offensive end from the opening whistle. Senior Aubrey Strohecker opened the scoring when junior Livia Messenger found her with a cross in front of the goal, giving Millersville an early lead.
Strohecker struck again 11 minutes later, finding herself in front of the net and burying a rebound to extend the Marauders' advantage. Millersville continued to apply pressure throughout the opening half, outshooting Mansfield 28-1.
The Marauders picked up where they left off in the second half, with Strohecker completing her hat trick 20 minutes into the period off a pass from fellow senior Sara Edwards.
Edwards joined the scoring three minutes later when she found the left corner from 20 yards out to make it 4-0.
Freshman Camryn Snyder added to the lead in the 70th minute, tapping in a cross from Ashlyn Calabria for her first goal of the season. Brook Balliet capped the scoring three minutes before the final whistle, recording her first goal of the year to give Millersville the 6-0 victory.
"We adapted to the game fine with the changes. Going on the road is a distraction enough." said head coach Matt Procopio. "Our focus must always be on what we need to do. We do need to be more efficient with our chances. While we did score 6 goals we had very good looks early that went wasted."
With the win, Millersville improves to 2-1 in PSAC East play and returns home Wednesday to welcome the Shippensburg Raiders.
