Marauders shut out Shippensburg for third straight win

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - The Millersville women's soccer team made it three straight wins Wednesday night, defeating the Shippensburg Raiders, 3-0.
Early progression by Millersville allowed the Marauders to dictate the pace and control the game slowly as they looked to capitalize, but only one shot was placed on goal in the opening 25 minutes.
The Marauders broke through in the 28th minute as Lia Francis placed a ball off the crossbar that was rebounded by sophomore Cheyenne Forte for the putback, earning her first collegiate goal.
Millersville outshot Shippensburg 6-1 entering halftime, while a diving save by Megan Taltavull kept the Raiders off the scoreboard.
A penalty kick early in the second half allowed Millersville to strike again. A foul drawn by Brook Balliet in the box granted Aubrey Strohecker a free shot on goal, which she capitalized on to make it eight goals on the season.
The Marauders capitalized again 20 minutes later as Camryn Snyder dished the ball to Ashlyn Calabria, who dribbled around her defender before finding the right corner to extend the Marauders' lead to three.
The Raiders had no response as Millersville picked up its third conference win. The Marauders return home Saturday when they welcome Lackawanna College for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
"I thought we came out a little slow to start the game but we did progress as the game went on." said head coach Matt Procopio. "The second half was a strong start for us. We needed to do a better job winning first and second balls once we did that more chances came."
