Marauders battle but drop match to Lock Haven

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. — The Millersville University volleyball team faced a tough match against Lock Haven, falling 3-0 (18-25, 17-25, 8-25) on Tuesday. The Marauders finished with 20 kills and a -.044 hitting percentage, while Lock Haven totaled 40 kills and hit .306.
The Marauders' attack was limited to 20 kills with 25 errors on 114 attempts for a -.044 hitting percentage, while Lock Haven recorded 40 kills, 10 errors and a .306 mark. Millersville matched Lock Haven with three service aces and committed fewer service errors, and a 4-0 run in set 2 cut a six-point deficit to two, but Lock Haven also finished with 55 digs to the Marauders' 36.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The opening set for Millersville was shaped by an early seven-point Lock Haven run that moved the score from 2-3 to 2-10, leaving the visitors chasing the set. Charlee Russick helped the Marauders respond with four kills, including one during a four-point stretch that brought the score to 15-20. Lock Haven closed out the set 25-18.
After Lock Haven's 6-0 start, the Marauders used a Russick kill, two Sidonia Cecco aces and another Russick kill to close within 6-4. Millersville later pulled even at 13-13 on consecutive points from Nadia Sawyer and Hailey Lazur blocks. Lock Haven answered with six straight points and took the set 25-17.
In the third set, the Marauders were held to eight points as Lock Haven scored seven straight to move from a 10-4 lead to 17-4. Marissa Storti, Sawyer and Amanda Protzman added kills for Millersville after Alena Lombardo's earlier finish, but Lock Haven closed the set with the final five points for a 25-8 result.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Russick led Millersville with seven kills and added four digs. Cecco recorded a team-high 12 digs and served two aces. Addison Reustle finished with nine assists and five digs, while Lazur added three block assists and two kills. Lazur's three blocks exceeded her season average of 2.25. Additionally, Sawyer recorded three blocks, surpassing her season average of 1.75.
