MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - With the NCAA Super Regional set for later this week at Cooper Park, a pair of Millersville Marauders were recognized as All-Atlantic Region on Monday. Joe Morrissey was the first team relief pitcher for both the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) and D2CCA, which is voted on by the region's college sports communicators. Matthew Williams was the first team designated hitter for D2CCA.
Morrissey is a first time all-region selection while Williams earned his second nod. Millersville has had at least one all-region performer each season since 2013. Morrissey is only the seventh Marauder reliever to land all-region honors, and he is the first first team selection since George McClure (ABCA) in 2000. Williams is the first Marauder DH named all-region.
Morrissey owns a 5-1 record with six saves in 23 appearances and 47 1/3 inning pitched. He is the first Marauder since Adam Zipko in 2014 with at least five wins and five saves. He currently holds a 0.95 ERA, which is the lowest by a Marauder with at least 30 innings pitched since 1999.
Williams, Millersville's career home runs leader, enters the Super Regional with a .328 average and leads the team with a .576 slugging percentage, .485 OBP, 1.061 OPS, 12 doubles, and 42 walks. Williams also ranks second on the team with 10 homers and third with 40 RBIs. He is the only player in Millersville history with 40 RBIs in four seasons.
Millersville takes on West Chester at Cooper Park in a best-of-three series starting on May 21. All games begin at 1 p.m.
