WINGATE, N.C. - Millersville University senior Matthew Williams earned Preseason All-America recognition by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA), and the organization voted the Marauders No. 22 in its Division II preseason poll.
Williams landed second team recognition at the utility position. He was one of just two PSAC players voted to any of the three teams. While playing firse base, serving as the DH and pitching, Williams hit .330 with a team-leading 1.106 OPS, 18 home runs and 62 RBIs. On the mound, he went 2-0 in eight appearances, posting a 4.63 ERA.
Williams' five postseason home runs helped him win the PSAC Tournament MVP award. He landed All-PSAC East, ABCA and NCBWA All-Atlantic Region First Team honors. Not only did he set Millersville's single-season home run record, but he also ranked 28th in the nation in home runs. He enters his senior season with a career .305 average, having posted a .330 or higher average in each of the last two seasons. His 150 RBIs rank seventh all-time, and he is attempting to be the first player in Millersville history to drive in 40 or more runs four times.
The No. 22 NCBWA ranking put Millersville in its third preseason poll. The Marauders rank No. 15 in by D2 Baseball and No. 22 by the ABCA.
