
Hessler and Murphy claimed first place finishes in Alvernia Invitational

READING, Pa. - The Millersville University women's track and field team competed in the Alvernia Winter Invitational, serving as the second meet for the Marauders. Sarah Hessler and Katelyn Murphy led the way for the Marauders, each claiming first-place finishes.
The one-day meet featured teams from host team Alvernia, Albright College, Eastern University, Elizabethtown College, Holy Family University, Kutztown University, Lebanon Valley College, Messiah University, Misericordia University, Stevens Institute of Technology, West Chester University, Widener University, York College, and Wilmington University.
In the preliminaries of the 60-meter hurdles, Katelyn Murphy posted the fastest qualifying time, finishing in 9.17 seconds—nearly a tenth of a second ahead of the second-place finisher. Megan Hechler and Ava Wilson both placed within the top 20 but did not advance to the finals. Murphy capped off the event with a first-place finish in the final heat, crossing the line in 9.03 seconds.
The Marauders opened the field events with Braelyn Heim in the pole vault, where she recorded a mark of 2.45 meters. In the weight throw, Sarah Hessler earned a second-place finish with a throw of 15.40 meters, ranking her No. 82 on the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Top 100 list. Chloe Enck followed with a fourth-place finish at 13.93 meters, while Emily Sheffee placed 10th to round out the event for the Marauders.
In the high jump, Ava Wilson secured a fifth-place finish with a jump of 1.55 meters, while Katelyn Ferrence and Heim finished 10th and 11th, respectively. Hessler continued her strong day in the shot put, capturing first place with a throw of 12.49 meters and earning the No. 80 spot on the NCAA Division II Top 100 list.
The Marauders are back on the tack January 24 at Franklin and Marshall College for the Coach I Invite.
