'Ville track and field, four student-athletes recognized for outstanding academics

NEW ORLEANS - The Millersville University track and field program and four of its student-athletes have been recognized by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for their outstanding academic performances in 2024-25. The team was honored as an All-Academic Team, and Maddy Downs, Darian Hauf, Sarah Hessler and Megan Malecki earned All-Academic Athlete recognition. 

Millersville's entire roster, under the guidance of Coach Andy Young, produced a 3.45 cumulative GPA, receiving the award for the 16th time in 17 years. The team produced 23 student-athletes with a GPA of 3.50 or higher, and 50 student-athletes earned PSAC Scholar-Athlete status with a GPA of 3.25 or higher. 

Downs, Hauf, Hessler and Malecki received USTFCCCA All-Academic Athlete recognition for producing a GPA of 3.25 or higher while finishing in the top 50 nationally in their respective events.

Downs, a biology major with a 3.31 GPA, ranked 37th in the nation, winning the PSAC Championship in the discus and finishing as the PSAC runner-up in the hammer throw. Hauf graduated with a 3.71 GPA in biology and ranked 13th in Division II in the indoor pole vault. Hessler, a junior early childhood education major, produced a 3.91 GPA while earning four All-PSAC honors in 2024-25. During the indoor season, she ranked 35th in the nation in the shot put, and she ranked 35th in the outdoor discus and 45th in the hammer. Malecki graduated with a 3.52 GPA in chemistry with a focus on engineering instrumentation automation. Malecki placed second in the pole vault at the PSAC Indoor Championships and third place outdoors, ranking 37th nationally during the outdoor season and 41st during the indoor season.
