Andy Young

2024-25 REVIEW
Andy Young finished his 19th year at the helm of cross country and 16th for track and field for 2024-2025, and he guided all three of his programs to outstanding seasons. The cross country team, led by PSAC runner-up and NCAA Championships qualifier Morgan Janiuk, placed sixth at the PSAC Championships for back-to-back top-six finishes for the first time since 2010. The indoor brought more success. Darian Hauf broke the PSAC pole vault record, and the team earned a fourth-place team finish at the indoor championships, receiving All-PSAC finishes from Aasly De Leon (60-meter dash), Katelyn Murphy (60-meter hurdles), Megan Malecki (pole vault), and Sarah Hessler (shot put). The Marauders carried that momentum into the outdoor season, where they finished as the PSAC Championships runner-up, clinching the placement with a program record 4x400-meter relay victory. Murphy became Millersville's first PSAC champ in the 100-meter hurdles since 2016, freshman Jillian Sydnor was the runner-up in the 400, Maddy Downs won the discus, and Hessler joined 'Ville legends Sunflower Greene and Hannah Woelfling as the only Marauders with All-PSAC performances in three throwing events.

PSAC CHAMPIONSHIP SUCCESS
Millersville women's track and field became a power in the PSAC in 2017-18 and 2018-19, finishing as the outdoor championships runner-up in both seasons while posting back-to-back best-ever finishes at the indoor championships. The 2021-22 indoor season saw the Marauders post another best-ever finish, and the rise culminated at the 2022 PSAC Outdoor Championships, where the Marauders won their first conference title since 1996, and did so in dominating fashion, outscoring the runner-up by nearly 20 points. In those finishes, Millersville saw Erin Madison, Sunflower Greene and Hannah Woelfling win the PSAC Outdoor Championships MVP award, and Clara Forney was named PSAC Championships Track Athlete of the Meet in 2019. Millersville scored another outdoor runner-up finish in 2025. Since 2014, Millersville has placed third or higher at the outdoor championships nine times with three runner-up finishes and a championship.

THE THROWING DYNASTY
Sunflower Greene became arguably the most dominant thrower in conference history from 2017-19 as she won 11 PSAC titles and back-to-back NCAA Division II titles in the indoor shot put. She was named PSAC Field Athlete of the Meet or overall PSAC Athlete of the Year in five consecutive seasons from the 2017 indoor season through the 2019 outdoor season. Her success was quickly followed by Aliyah Striver, who earned All-America status in the shot put in both indoor and outdoor and was twice voted the PSAC Indoor Championships Field Athlete of the Meet. Simultaneously, Hannah Woelfling rose to stardom, qualifying for indoor and outdoor NCAA Championships in 2021-22 before winning the NCAA title in the discus and finishing as the national runner-up in the hammer in 2023. Woelfling won six PSAC titles across three years, and was named the PSAC Field Athlete of the Year in 2023. Maddy Downs and Sarah Hessler carried on the tradition in 2024-25, with Downs winning the PSAC title in the discus and Hessler earning All-PSAC honors at the outdoor championships.

DISTANCE STANDOUTS
Under Young's watch, Millersville University Athletic Hall of Fame inductee distance runner Priscilla Jennings became the most decorated athlete in the history of the school. Jennings twice reached the cross country national championships, earning All-America honors in 2009 with her eighth-place finish. Her track achievements were even more impressive, garnering four All-America honors between the indoor and outdoor campaigns. She won two Atlantic Region Athlete of the Year awards, two PSAC Championship track athlete of the meet awards and 10 PSAC track titles. Jennings also set the PSAC all-time record for the indoor 800 meters, the PSAC outdoor meet records for 800 and 1,500 meters as well as 11 school records.

Following Jennings closely, Elicia Anderson broke onto the cross country scene in 2010, placing 14th at the NCAA Championship to earn All-American accolades. In the 2011 track season, Young coached Anderson to finish fourth in the 10k, earning her a second All-America honor.  Anderson shattered several records, including two of Jennings' records. Anderson became the second Marauder behind Jennings to qualify for and earn All-America status in all three seasons of cross country, indoor and outdoor track during 2012 when she placed sixth in the 5K at the indoor championship.

In 2024, Morgan Janiuk joined a legendary group of Millersville runners as she finished as the PSAC and NCAA Atlantic Regional runner-up and became the sixth Marauder to qualify for the NCAA Championships as an individual.

KIARA ALLEN AND ERIN MADISON
While Jennings and Anderson starred in distance events, Allen and Madison dominated the PSAC in sprints in hurdles of the course of four seasons (2012-16). Allen was an indoor and outdoor NCAA Division II Championships qualifier, scoring All-America honors with an eighth-place finish 2015 60-meter dash. Allen won the PSAC Championship in the 100-meter dash three consecutive seasons from 2014-16. Her 2016 win in the indoor 60 made her the first Marauder sprinter to ever win an indoor PSAC Championship. Allen set the school's 60-meter dash record in 2015 (7.53). She also posted the No. 2 100-meter dash time and the No. 3 200-meter dash time.

Madison established herself as arguably the top hurdler in Millersville history, setting the program record in the 400-meter hurdles (59.77) in 2015 and posting the second-fastest time in the 100-meter hurdles. Madison was a two-time national qualifier, reaching the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 400 hurdles in both 2015 and 2016. She won the event twice at the PSAC Outdoor Championships, and in 2016, she was voted the track and overall meet MVP after winning both hurdle events.
