A three-time PSAC Champion, two-time All-American, and record-setter in multiple events, Dr. Erin “Shoes” Madison starred in the hurdles and mid-distance races for the Marauders. From the 2012-13 indoor season through the 2016 outdoor season, Madison scored in 22 PSAC championship events, earning All-PSAC recognition for top-three finishes 13 times.

The crowning achievement of Madison’s brilliant career came at the 2016 PSAC Outdoor Championships, where she won both the 100- and 400-meter hurdles and contributed to runner-up finishes in the 4x100- and 4x400-meter relays. For those performances, the conference’s coaches made her the first Marauder to win not just the championships’ track athlete of the meet award, but also the overall athlete of the meet award.

In addition to her double-up on PSAC titles in 2016, Madison won the 400 hurdles and finished as the runner-up in the 100 hurdles in 2015. She also placed second in the 400-meter dash at the 2013 and 2016 indoor championships and was the runner-up in the 400 hurdles in 2013 and 2014.

The 400 hurdles was Madison’s marquee event, and she qualified for the NCAA Championships three times. She placed 15th in her first showing and then earned All-America First Team status with an eighth-place finish in 2015 before capping her career with a 10th-place finish and All-America Second Team honor as a senior. Madison established the school record in the event, toppling a mark that had stood for 31 years. No other athlete in program history is within a second of Madison. Madison also set school records in the 4x100, 4x400 and indoor 500-meter run. Her 55-meter hurdles time ranks second, and she ranked second in the 100-meter hurdles and 400-meter dash at the time of graduation. Madison still holds 13 top-10 times.

An outstanding student, Madison earned two bachelor’s degrees in her four years at Millersville, earning PSAC Scholar-Athlete and USTFCCCA All-Academic honors four times. Madison received a Ph.D. in experimental psychology from Idaho State University in 2023. Madison is currently employed as a psychology professor, specializing in cognitive psychology.
