Downs and Hessler continue to dominate throws in second day of PSAC Championships

| By:
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. — The Marauders positioned themselves well for the final day of the PSAC Outdoor Championships, qualifying plenty of athletes for the final round tomorrow while also dominating the discus throw in the second day of the meet.

NOTABLE RESULTS
  • After Maddy Downs and Sarah Hessler earned All-PSAC in the hammer throw yesterday, the duo had the same success in the discus throw today. Downs came out as the conference champion in the event, winning with a mark of 145-7 to take the crown. Hessler was right behind her in second place, finishing with a distance of 138-2. Of Millersville's 37 points, the duo has combined to account for 32 of them.
  • Sabela Zablackis completed the heptathlon and finished in eighth place with 4,106 points. A fourth-place finish in the 800-meter run got her just into scoring position to earn a point for Millersville.
  • The 4x100-meter relay team of Aasly De Leon, Heather Lesinski, Arianna Kouakou, and Delaney Wenger punched their ticket for the finals tomorrow with a fourth-place finish in the preliminary round and a time of 47.74.
  • Katelyn Murphy flew by the rest of the competition in the 100-meter hurdles, winning the qualifying round with a time of 14.41, a tenth of a second better than the next-closest athlete.
  • The Marauders will be well represented in tomorrow's 400-meter dash final, making up four of the eight qualifying spots with top finishes from Jillian Sydnor, Shelby Derkosh, Aubrey Sydnor, and Milan Snell. Jillian Sydnor won the round with a time of 55.85.
  • De Leon also qualified for the finals in the 100- and 200-meter dash as well, clocking in with times of 11.92 in the former and 24.77 in the latter for fifth-place finishes in both events.
