THE CHAMPIONSHIP
- The Millersville women's golf team is rolling into this weekend's PSAC Championship, having just won its program-record-setting sixth win of the season. The Marauders have won six of their last nine tournaments dating back to Oct. 10. Millersville finished third in last season's PSAC Championship, two shots behind runner-up Mercyhurst. It was Millersville's best finish since its lone championship win in 2015. With Mercyhurst having exited the PSAC, Millersville is in a prime position to chase down Gannon, which has won five consecutive conference championships.
- At the forefront for Millersville has been senior Charley Kirby, who has won three times and finished 11th or higher in all six events this spring. Emma Schotsch also has a win this season, taking first at the MU Women's Invitational. Kirby has won three PSAC Women's Golf Athlete of the Week awards, and Schotsch shared the award last week. Kirby, Schotsch and Amanda Wolf give Millersville a trio of championship-tested seniors. Schotsch was an All-PSAC performer in 202 and Wolf was an All-PSAC selection in 2024. All three Marauders have won tournaments in their careers, they are all playing in the PSAC Championship for the fourth time, and all three have two top-25 finishes in the event. Kirby's best finish was a 16th-place finish as a freshman in 2022. Schotsch's best, a 13th-place finish, was in the same season. Wolf placed fourth last season, shooting 16-over, including a 4-over 76 in the second round. Kirby's three wins are tied for the second-most by a Marauder in a single season, and her 81.9 scoring average is currently the sixth-best in program history. Wolf owns an 84.4 scoring average with 10 top-10 finishes in 14 events. Schotsch's 84.7 scoring average is a career-best, as are her nine top-10 finishes.
- Filling out Millersville's lineup are Lex Pfeufer and Sabrina Swope. Ashden Stitt is the team's alternate. Pfeufer has played her best golf recently, placing fifth with an 11-over score at the Husky Spring Invitational. She enters the weekend with an 87.4 scoring average.
- Gannon is the favorite entering the weekend, ranked ninth in the NCAA East Region--the only PSAC team in the top 20. The Golden Knights are coming off a first-place finish at the Cav Classic in Canton, Ohio. Four Golden Knights own scoring averages under 80.0 and the team's adjusted scoring average is 312.4. Scoreboard, the NCAA's official ranking system, has West Chester ranked slightly ahead of Millersville. The Marauders finished a spot ahead of the Golden Rams at the Kutztown Invitational in October, but West Chester edged Millersville by seven shots at the MU Women's Fall Classic held at Berkleigh Country Club in September. The teams have not crossed paths in the spring. West Chester's scoring average is 335.3, and Millersville's is 338.2. Millersville and Gannon have not gone head-to-head this season.
