QUARRYVILLE, Pa. - Emma Schotsch took first place on a tiebreaker, leading the Millersville women's golf team to a record-tying fifth win of the season Saturday in the MU Women's Invitational at Tangelwood Golf Club.
Millersville shot a 339 total, topping 10 programs, including seven PSAC teams. The Marauders have won five of their last seven tournaments dating back to Oct. 10, and they've now won their own spring tournament at Tanglewood Golf Club three years in a row.
The Marauders narrowly edged Bloomsburg by six shots and Cal U by 11. Schotsch moved into fourth in Millersville history in career wins by picking up her third--one in each of the last three seasons. She shot a 9-over-par 81 with a birdie on the 18th. Shepherd's Sara Veara also posted an 81. The golfers' back-nine scores were the first tiebreaker, but both shot 40. The determination was made by score on the highest handicap hole--the 381-yard, par-4 eighth. Schotsch parred while Veara bogeyed.
Schotsch's classmate, Amanda Wolf, nearly made it a three-way tie as she finished at 10-over and in a tie with Cal U's Maddie Myers for second place. Millersville's Charley Kirby placed 11th at 14-over, and Sydney Barnes' 90 represented Millersville's fourth counting score.
Ashden Stitt, in the field as an individual, tied for 11th, and Bailey Toporcer, also playing as an individual, finished in a tie for 14th.
