LOCK HAVEN, Pa. — Impressive weeks from Millersville softball standouts Jocelyn Langer and Nicolina Pezzone earned the pair a sweep of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East's weekly honors; Langer took home Athlete of the Week while Pezzone was named Pitcher of the Week. It is the first time in over six years that Millersville softball has swept the conference's weekly awards.
Pezzone has been exceptional thus far in her junior season and took it up a notch over the last seven days, tossing 13.1 innings and allowing just one earned run. On March 4 against Jefferson, she hurled seven shutout innings and struck out eight batters while allowing just four Rams to reach base. Pezzone was credited with the win in all three of her appearances and now has five wins on the season. She's tied for third in the PSAC in total wins and her .79 earned run average on the season ranks second in the conference. The junior capped off her award-winning week by allowing one unearned run over four innings of work against Mount Olive on March 9.
Langer batted .474 across six games played, tallying nine hits in 19 at bats with three multi-hit games. The freshman smacked two hits and scored three runs in game two against Jefferson on March 4 before following that up with two more multi-hit games in a doubleheader sweep of Virginia State on March 8. Like Pezzone, Langer's performance was just a continuation of her season-long excellence. The outfielder is currently working on a 12-game hitting streak dating back to Feb. 26 and has a .528 batting average in that span. For the season, she's second on the team in runs scored (15), tops in batting average (.475) and
The pair helped the Marauders to a 5–1 record in its six games played and four of those wins were part of a program-best 10-game winning streak between February 26 and March 8. That record was previously held by a pair of nine-game streaks put together by the 2018 and 1996 Millersville softball squads.
The last time the Marauders swept the PSAC's weekly softball awards was on Feb. 18, 2019; on that day, Emma Bevard was named PSAC East Pitcher of the Week and Hunter Little took home PSAC East Athlete of the Week. This is also the second week in a row that the Marauders have earned Athlete of the Week honors after Angelina Edwards claimed the award last week. The rest of the PSAC softball award winners can be found below.
