KUTZTOWN, Pa. - The Millersville women's golf team finished third overall, ahead of five other PSAC programs at the two-day Millersville Invitational played at Berkleigh Golf Club in Kutztown.
The 36-hole event was a sneak peek at the site of the PSAC Championship slated for the spring, and Millersville performed admirably on the par-72 track, finishing seven shots behind runner-up West Chester, and improving by 15 shots from the first round to the second. Alvernia pulled away from the pack for the team title, shooting a 50-over and beating West Chester by 22 shots. Alvernia's 14-over round two was 16 shots better than any other team round of the tournament.
Emma Schotsch led Millersville with a seventh-place finish, shooting a 6-over 78 in the second round, which put her at 14-over for the tournament. Alvernia's McKylie Boreman took medalist honors with a 3-over tally. She edged teammate Katie Lapinsky by three shots despite Lapinsky shooting a 1-under 71 on Tuesday for low-round-of-the-tournament honors.
All five golfers in Millersville's lineup placed inside the top 25 of the 49-player field. Amanda Wolf placed 13th (19-over), Ashden Stitt placed 19th (23-over), Lex Pfeufer took 20th (24-over), and Charley Kirby placed 23rd (27-over). Pfeufer's 79 in the second round was the lowest 18-hole score of her career.
Playing as an individual, Bailey Toporcer's score did not count toward Millersville's team total, but she placed ninth for her first career top-10, posting a 17-over score over two rounds. She shot a career-low 6-over in round two.
