BELLE VERNON, Pa. - Lex Pfeufer turned in the best 36-hole performance of her career, placed 11th out of 56 golfers, and the Millersville women's golf team posted a fifth-place finish at the two-day Vulcan Invitational.
Pfeufer shot a career-low 79 in the opening round and posted an 80 on Tuesday, going 16 shots lower than her previous career low. She missed the top 10 by just one stroke and finished 13 behind Alvernia's McKylie Boreman, who won the event. Unfortunately for Millersville, Pfeufer was entered into the tournament as an individual, so her score did not count toward the team's score.
Millersville was within striking distance after a 33-over-par put them in second place after the first round. But they slipped down the leaderboard with a 65-over on Tuesday. The top counting score for Millersville was Amanda Wolf, who finished at 19-over-par and in a tie for 13th. Charley Kirby opened with an 8-over 80 but posted a 15-over tally on day two, falling into a tie for 19th. Emma Schotsch tied for 37th, and Sydney Barnes tied for 39th.
Millersville returns to familiar territory on Sept. 23-24 as it hosts the Millersville Fall Invitational at Berkleigh Golf Club in Kutztown--the site of the 2025 PSAC Championship.
