KUTZTOWN, Pa. - Less than a week removed from a tough run against Division I competition, the Millersville women's cross country team took a different strategy in Friday's DII/DIII Challenge hosted by Kutztown University. The Marauders placed seventh out of 10 teams--nine of which were PSAC programs.
Millersville focused on its team running and scouting Friday evening, and the results showed just that as Morgan Janiuk and Bri Pollock tied for 21st followed by a pack of seven finishing 52nd through 63rd.
"Since our top runners ran hard last Friday we tried to work on team running today and have them hold back," said Millersville head coach Andy Young. "It gave an opportunity for some of our developers to race up with them. We got solid work as we approach some of the big meets, and we got to scope out the PSAC Championship course for later in the season."
Janiuk and Pollock crossed the finish line at the same mark--24:51.67. Emilea Alleman followed in 25:53.68. Olivia Sunderland ran a 25:53.83, and Breia Mayes finished just over three seconds after that. Millersville had 24 runners in all compete in the event.
Bloomsburg's Kelly Selheimer won the race in 23:13.92. Shippensburg won the team race with three finishing in the top five.
