LEBANON, Pa. - The Millersville University women's cross country team could not have scripted a better start to the 2026 campaign. On Saturday morning, the Marauders took first place at the Dutchmen Invitational for the program's first intercollegiate meet win since 2000.
Millersville bested a field of 10 scoring teams, totaling 23 points with seven runners placing among the top 11 scorers and in the top 18 overall. Sophomore Kira Chebishev placed third overall and first among scoring runners, and Bri Pollock finished one spot behind.
"The team was happy to get the win," said Millersville head coach Andy Young. "They ran good team races and followed race plans well, so we as coaches are happy too."
The Marauders were tightly bunched at the top of the pack. Despite the recent rain making the course muddy and slow, Chebishev finished in 19:23.8 and Pollock crossed the finish line at almost the exact same moment, finishing a tenth of a second behind. Freshman Kiera Reider, making her collegiate debut, ran third on the team and finished eighth overall in 19:40.7. Bella Ruefle finished in 11th with a time of 19:44.3. Emma Armstrong took 16th in 20:10.5, followed by freshman Delaney Schoeneberger in 20:10.9 and Ashley Main in 20:11.
"We wanted to keep our packs together for 1 1/2 miles and then try to push the second half," said Young. "They crept up slowly on the other teams in the second half. A lot of the runners felt really good. The course was a bit slow with a lot of mud this year, but they ran very well."
Millersville earned its first intercollegiate meet win since Sept. 2, 2000 at the Salisbury Sea Gull Opener where Meghan Edmiston and Betty Mohler paced the Marauders.
"I think winning can definitely breed more winning," said Young. "I think just knowing they can compete well will pay big dividends this season."
