Griffins blank slumping Marauders

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa.- The offensive slump that plagued Millersville down the stretch carried over into the NCAA Atlantic Regional first round game against Seton Hill. The Marauders had no answer for Aidan Layton who struck out 15 and went eight shutout innings as the Griffins won, 5-0.

The third-seeded Marauders lost a sixth consecutive game for the first time since 2008. Millersville now plays an elimination game against Frostburg State Thursday at 11 a.m. while Seton Hill advances to play East0 Stroudsburg.

After singles from Keegan Soltis and Mark McNelly to start the bottom of the first  Millersville did not have another base runner until the sixth as Layton retired 15 consecutive Marauders. Meanwhile, Seton Hill made the most of their swings against Carson Kulina. Kulina struck out 10 Griffins over the course of seven innings, but a two-run home run Owen Mandler in the third and a solo shot from Owen Sabol in the fourth gave the Griffins an early 3-0 lead.

Millersville put six runners on base in the final three innings but stranded all of them.

Thursday's game was the 12th all-time regional meeting between Millersville and Seton Hill. The Griffins exacted some measure of revenge as Millersville swept last season's super regional for a World Series berth. The series is now tied at 12 wins apiece.
