Homers from Houser and Williams help Marauders to series sweep

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - Cole Houser hit two home runs in Millersville's 4-2 game one win over Shepherd, and Matthew Williams' fifth-inning grand slam completed a game two comeback that the Marauders won, 9-3.

Houser, Wiliams and Mark McNelly totaled three hits in the doubleheader. The wins completed a series sweep of Shepherd and moved the Marauders to 37-9 overall and 23-5 in PSAC East play with one series remaining. Millersville now enters the final weekend against West Chester in a tie for first with East Stroudsburg and two games up on the Golden Rams.

Sunday's games were originally slated for Saturday in Shepherdstown, but rain and travel challenges forced Millersville to be the road team in its home park. Houser went 2 for 4 in the opener, hitting a solo home run in the first and a tie-breaking two-run shot in the fifth. Houser had a hand in all four of the Marauders' runs.

Shepherd evened the score at 2-2 in the fourth, getting an unearned run against Alex Mykut. Mykut worked just 3 2/3 for his shortest outing of the season, but Cole Fisher (2-0) provided 2 1/3 shutout innings, striking out four without allowing a walk. Evan Rishell struck out the side in the seventh for his second save of the weekend.

Millersville needed another rally in game two, falling behind 3-1 before a six-run fifth inning that included an RBI single from Amani Jones, a Jones run on a passed ball, and Williams' grand slam. Shepherd starter Eli Lam held Millersville to two singles through the first four innings but two early singles knocked him out of the game. Millersville then went to work against the Rams' bullpen. The game-tying run scored on a passed ball. Three consecutive walks set the stage for Williams' game-breaking homer.

Millersville received more stellar bullpen work in game two as Colby Gromlich (3-4) struck out five and walked just one in 3 2/3 hitless, scoreless innings.
