Marauders struggle in rare home sweep

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - Saturday's doubleheader was filled with rarities as Millersville was swept at home for just the third time since 2014. J.T. Weaver out-pitched Millersville's previously unbeaten Alex Mykut for a 5-0 win in the opener, and Shippensburg became the first team to shut out Millersville at The Coop since 2013. The Raiders evened the series with a 5-2 win in game two.

The series split marks the first time since 2017 that Millersville did not win the season series against Shippensburg. The game one loss was Millersville's first at home since March 1, ending a streak of 14 consecutive home wins. Weaver pitched the first complete game of his career. Millersville entered 10-0 with Mykut on the mound. Mykut allowed a season-high seven hits, and it was the first time this season he surrendered more than one run in a game. Shippensburg's Austin Baal hit two home runs in the game and accounted for four of the team's five runs.

Millersville's game two starter, Zack Tukis, allowed just one hit in his first 12 1/3 innings of the season, but Shippensburg recorded two in the first inning, including the first extra-base hit of the season off of Tukis.

The Marauders' woes were exacerbated by a slumping offense. Millersville totaled just six runs in the entire four-game series and recorded five or fewer hits in three of the four games. In the 5-0 loss on Saturday, the Marauders had six infield pop-outs and then five more in game two.

The bright spot in game two was the work of Evan Rishell and Harry Prince out of the bullpen as they combined for 2 1/3 shutout innings. Sam Morris went 2 for 3 with a double.
