ABOUT THE GAME

  • The Millersville Marauders (12-15, 10-11) look to upset the No. 14 Lock Haven Bald Eagles (25-2, 20-1) when they visit Lock Haven Saturday afternoon. It's the last regular season contest of the 2023-24 campaign for both teams.
  • With a Millersville win and a Kutztown loss, the Marauders could move into the third seed in the PSAC's Eastern Division as they have the tiebreaker over the Golden Bears. The Golden Bears take their 11-10 conference record to Shepherdstown to face last place Shepherd Saturday at 1 p.m.
  • The six playoff teams in the East are set (Lock Haven, West Chester, Kutztown, Millersville, Mansfield and East Stroudsburg), but only the top two seeds are finalized (Lock Haven one, West Chester two).

SCOUTING THE MARAUDERS

  • Coming off of its first loss in three weeks on Wednesday evening, Millersville is looking for a victory to close out its season. After a 73-45 drubbing at the hands of West Chester earlier this year, the Marauders battled the Golden Rams throughout but eventually fell 59-69.
  • The Marauders' offense has been driven by two players of late: guard Jabria Ingram and forward Makiah Shaw. Ingram has been pivotal to Millersville's success this season, as the team is 8-3 when she starts and 4-12 when she doesn't. The graduate student has been one of the best distributors in the conference this season, evidenced by her 4.3 assists per game and 1.8 assist to turnover ratio, which repectively rank third and second in the PSAC.
  • Another asset for the Marauders is the red-hot Makiah Shaw.  She's coming off of her best all-around week as a Marauder (a week that saw her take home PSAC East Defensive Athlete of the Week honors) and built on that against the Golden Rams. She averaged 17 points, seven rebounds, two blocks and two steals in the wins on February 21 and 24. Against West Chester, she tallied 16 points and five rebounds while only turning the ball over once.

SCOUTING THE BALD EAGLES

  • Lock Haven enters on quite the hot streak. The Bald Eagles were tabbed as the No. 14 team in the nation in this week's NCAA DII D2CSC National Poll. Their only conference loss this season came at West Chester on February 3; prior to that loss they had won a program-record 19 straight games. They have responded in an impressive manner in the six games since, taking each by 12 or more points.
  • Despite their outstanding record, Lock Haven presents itself as a middling offensive team. Rather, it is the defensive side of the ball where the Bald Eagles have shined most this season. They're top four in the conference in opponent field goal percentage (fourth), opponent three point percentage (second) and blocks per game (first). Those factors cumulate in a third-ranked scoring defense allowing 54.6 points per game.
  • That stout defense centers around sophomore forward Alana Robinson, who is the only player in the PSAC averaging more than two blocks per game (2.5). She's also tied for eighth in the conference in steals per game at 1.7. The sophomore has been a force on the offensive side of the ball as well, as she's seventeenth in the conference in scoring at 14.0 points per game. Her 48.5% field goal mark is fourth in the league as well.
  • Robinson's averages in scoring and steals are second on her own team; Jenadia Jordan holds the narrow edge with 15.3 points per game and 2.1 steals per game. Jordan's marks in those categories are eleventh and sixth, respectively.
  • Expect to see a deeper rotation from the Bald Eagles, as there's only one player on the team averaging more than 30 minutes per game (Jordan at 30.1) and four averaging more than 20 minutes per contest.

SERIES HISTORY

  • The rivalry between these two program has had three distinct eras: pre-1980, 1980-2017 and 2017-present day. Between the 1945-46 season and the 1978-79 season, the Bald Eagles won 19 of 21 matchups. From 1979 until 2017, Millersville took the upper hand with a 37-10 record. Since then, Lock Haven reclaimed the edge with a 9-3 record. That all balances out to a near-even 40-39 mark for the Marauders against them all-time.
