LEBANON, Pa. - The Millersville women's golf program feels right at home at Lebanon Country Club. On Monday, the Marauders won the LVC Invitational for the fourth consecutive season and captured their second team win in five days.
With a late-season flourish, the Marauders closed their fall with back-to-back wins, first winning the Husky Invitational on Oct. 10 and then bested 11 other teams to win the Lebanon Valley College-hosted tournament on Monday.
The weather conditions were hardly conducive to scoring with temperatures dipping into the low 50s with whipping winds piling fallen leaves on the putting surfaces. Still, the Marauders shot a 326--the lowest score of their four wins at the event. Millersville won by a comfortable 18-shot margin over Catholic University.
Charley Kirby continued her hot streak with a runner-up finish for a fourth consecutive top-10 finish. In the last eight days, Kirby has posted two second-place finishes along with a fifth and a seventh. Kirby's 5-over 77 was edged by the 76 shot by Fatima Rizvi of Albright and Brooke Smith of Catholic. Smith won the individual trophy in a playoff. Kirby's round included birdies on the par-5 second, par-5 fifth and par-5 15th.
Amanda Wolf shot an 80 and finished sixth for her fifth top 10 in seven events. She dropped in three birdies, including threes at the par-4 fifth and 13th. Emma Schotsch, the two-time defending champion of the event, tied for seventh with an 84. Ashden Stitt's 85 and ninth-place finish put all four Marauder scorers in the top 10.
In addition to a pair of team wins, the Marauders tied for first but lost out on a tiebreaker at the McDaniel Invitational and placed second at the Kutztown Invitational. The team returns to competition in March.
