CLERMONT, Fla. – On the same day
Alex Schaefer was named PSAC East Pitcher of the Week, she picked up her fifth and sixth wins of the season in Clermont, Fla. against Ashland (6-0) and Cedarville (3-2). The standout junior threw nine total innings, including a complete game against Cedarville in the two-win day for Millersville.
"Our pitching staff as a whole is doing a tremendous job keeping us in games," said head coach
Jen Probst. "Al was locked in from pitch one in both games today."
The Marauder offensive bounced back today with nine total runs. The group was led by
Aleese Angelo, who went a perfect 4-for-4 from the plate and knocked in four RBI's. Angelo was joined by
Kendra Bumgardner who also recorded two multi-hit games, going 5-for-6 with a walk and a run.
"I love how this team fights and finds a way to get it done," said Probst.
Millersville improves to 9-3 this season, which marks the program's best start through 12 games since 2013 when the Marauders started 10-2 and finished with 30 wins. They'll look to add to that win total in the six games remaining on the spring break schedule.
VS. ASHLAND
- Millersville did most of its damage early, scoring four first-inning runs against Ashland to take a commanding early lead.
- Angelo got the scoring started with an RBI single in the first following a single from Bumgardner and an error that put Sami Fried on first.
- Gabby D'Ottavio followed Angelo with an RBI single that send Bumgardner home. Gabi Turner and Taylor Campagna each singled later in the inning, which drove in the other two Marauder runs.
- Angelo picked up her second RBI of the game in the second innings, sending Lacey O'Donnell home to put the Marauders up 5-0. Alyssa Stover extended the Marauder lead to six a few batters later on a single that sent Angelo across home plate.
- 'Ville ended the game with 14 hits, three walks and just one strikeout.
- Schaefer, Mia Barone and Lizie Lopez all threw two scoreless innings in the win, while Angelina Saverase tossed one. Schaefer led the staff with four strikeouts, Lopez record two, while Barone and Saverase had one each.
- Outside of Angelo and Bumgardner, O'Donnell was the only other Marauder to record more than one hit, going 2-for-3 at the plate.
VS. CEDARVILLE
- Millersville scored all three of its runs in the third and fourth innings. Angelo started the scoring in the third with a SAC fly to centerfield that scored Sam Fried, who advanced to third on a wild pitch after reaching on a bunt and advancing to second on an error.
- The Marauders' other two runs came in the fourth. Hailey Watlington started the fourth-inning scoring with a double to center before Marli Schreiner reached first on an error. Cedarville walked the next two batters, Victoria Fuss and O'Donnell, which scored Watlington who was at third. Angelo recorded her final RBI of the day by sending Bryn Spoerl home, who pinch ran for Schreiner, which extended the 'Ville lead to three.
- Cedarville would score runs in the fifth and sixth innings but weren't able to find a tying run, resulting in the Marauder victory.
- Schaefer tossed a complete game, recording five strikeouts, giving up five hits, two runs and only walking one batter.

The Marauders will face two Minnesota programs tomorrow as they begin the day against Bemidji State at 2 p.m. before playing St. Cloud State at 4:30 p.m. .
