'Ville set to host Mansfield in PSAC East home opener

ABOUT THE GAME

  • The Millersville softball team looks to get on track in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern division this Sunday, March 26 against Mansfield. The Marauders are set to host the Mountaineers in doubleheader action that starts at 1 p.m. at Seaber Softball Stadium.
  • Both Millersville and Mansfield began PSAC East play 0-2 earlier this week. The Marauders fell twice at East Stroudsburg while the Mounties dropped two games at Bloomsburg.
  • This will be the 97th all-time meeting between the two programs. Mansfield holds the series lead, 53-43.
  • Marauder head coach, Jen Probst is one win away from career-win 300. Probst is currently coaching in her 14th collegiate season, seventh at 'Ville. She recorded 150 wins prior to her arrival at NCAA Division III member, Misericordia. She has won 149 games with the Black and Gold.

SCOUTING THE MARAUDERS

  • Since beginning the season with an impressive 11-5 record, the Marauders have dropped six-consecutive games. 
  • They'll look to get the offense back on track against a Mansfield pitching staff that has given up 28 runs in their last three games. Aleese Angelo leads the offense with a .338 batting average, 21 runs-batted in, seven doubles, two doubles and a pair of homeruns. Gabi Turner (14) and Kendra Bumgardner (10) join Angelo as the only other Marauders with double-digit RBIs this season. In total, the Marauders bat .276 and have driven in 93 runs this season. 
  • This will be Lacey O'Donnell's first time playing against her former team where she was an All-PSAC standout. The graduate student is batting .326 with a double and three RBIs this season. 
  • Alex Schaefer has been a bright spot in the Marauders' struggles as she holds a 1.80 earned-run average (ERA), 88 strikeouts and just 14 walks this season with an 8-5 record. She recently tallied a career-high 12 strikeouts in Tuesday's game one loss to ESU. 

SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS

  • Kayla Vonstein leads the Mounties in RBIs (7), hits (19), total bases (26) and average (.442). She's joined by Melissa Demo and Bailey Madison who each bat over.275 this season.
  • Danielle Goff leads the Mansfield pitchers with a .90 ERA, 40 strikeouts and a 5-2 record. Annabella Putnam will also see innings and has a 3-2 record with a 4.50 so far this season.
