MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - The Millersville men's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to Chestnut Hill Thursday in the first home match of the spring semester.
The match was much more closely contested than the final score would indicate as the Marauders (1-6) pushed four matches to three sets and two singles sets and a doubles set required tiebreakers. Chestnut Hill boosted its record to 6-3.
HOW IT HAPPENS
• The Griffins earned the match's first point by sweeping doubles, but it did not come without a fight. The No. 1 Millersville team of Dylan Tull and Lino Morin pushed Tom Pitchley and Noah Cunning to a tiebreaker before falling 7-6 (1).
• The Marauders received a three-set win from Morin in the No. 3 singles spot as he outlasted Tiago Mia, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3. While the Griffins won the other five matches, Tull lost a tightly contested match, 3-6, 7-6 (7-3), 2-6. Shaurya Piplani in the No. 2 spot and Yash Kothari in the No. 6 slot also sent their matches beyond two sets.
REACTION FROM COACH MATT HELSEL
• "Chestnut Hill played really good tennis today. We made them earn it today and they did. That said, we're closer than it might seem. The team has brighter days ahead of it if we keep our chin up and persevere. Lino is a good example. He had several close losses to start the season but pulled out a big win today."

• Millersville hosts Frostburg State on Saturday at home. Match time is set for 1 p.m.
