Box Score BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The Millersville men's tennis team opened its 2022-23 season at the Bloomsburg Invitational and

Zach Pernia and
Jasper de Koning reached the first-place match before rain sent teams home early.
The invitational featured three eight-team doubles brackets and six flights with eight singles players in each flight. Joining Millersville in the field were Saint Francis, West Liberty, Davis & Elkins, Bloomsburg and Mercy. Tull and
Frank Yanni also reached the first-place match in flight one doubles, winning two matches by 8-5 scores. The duo was set to take on West Liberty's top duo before weather set in.
Shaurya Piplani and
Lino Morin reached the flight two doubles third-place match. The tandem defeated Saint Francis' team 8-5before falling in the semis to Davis & Elkins, 8-4. Pernia and de Koning also went 1-1 in flight three.
Tull scored a pair of three-set victories in his run to the flight one finals. He outlasted Saint Francis' Fabio Varella 4-2, 1-4, 10-8 in round one and then topped Bloomsburg's Albert Martin, 2-4, 4-2, 10-2. Pernia posted a 2-0 record with wins over Filippo Buffo of Davis & Elkins (4-5, 4-2, 10-8) and Saint Francis' Greg Troyan (4-2, 4-2). de Koningscored straight-set wins in both of his bouts in flight five. He defeated Bloomsburg's Vinicius Moura, 4-2, 5-4, and then topped Davis & Elkins' Kyle Hawthorne, 2-4, 4-2, 10-7.
The Marauders play in the ITA Regional at Bloomsburg on Sept. 16-18.
