LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - In less that one week, the Millersville women's track and field team will host the PSAC Outdoor Championships at Biemesderfer Stadium. On Saturday in the Lock Haven Qualifier, it was one last chance for athletes to punch a ticket for the championships or improve their qualifying marks. For Millersville's Woelfling, it was another opportunity to break records.
Competing in less than optimal conditions, Woelfling broke Hubert Jack Stadium records in the hammer throw and discus, winning both events. While she did not improve upon her already established NCAA qualifying seasons bests, Woelfling posted a 179-11 in the hammer and a 154-9 in the discus. Woelfling also placed third in the shot put, while teammate
Aliyah Striver hit 45-0.
Striver also finished second in the discus (141-10), and
Maddy Downs, already a PSAC qualifier, placed third at 123-9. With Woelfling at the top, Millersville placed four athletes in the top six in the hammer.
Kandice Liebl posted a PR of 144-1 to take third.
Cassie Sharrow finished fourth, and Downs placed sixth. All four athletes are qualified for the conference championships.
Mikaela Wolf won the javelin with a toss of 117-6, which was a PR but just shy of the PSAC qualifying mark.
Woelfling enters the PSAC Outdoor Championships as the top seed in the hammer and discus while Striver is ranked No. 1 in the shot put.
In other events, Millersville athletes came up short in hitting PSAC qualifying marks. The Marauders, however, are expected to have as many as 33 individual entries at the conference championship meet, which begins on Thursday, May 12. Thursday's events include the start of the decathlon and heptathlon, the men's and women's hammer throw and the men's and women's 10,000-meter run.
