Clarion trips up Marauders in opener, but Marauders salvage split

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - Clarion snapped Millersville's four-game winning streak and picked up its first win of the season with a 7-4 victory in game one of Tuesday's non-conference doubleheader at Cooper Park. The Marauders, however, bounced back in game two, rolling to a 12-0 victory behind a sterling performance from freshman Garet Blankenbiller

Thomas Caufield hit a home run in both games and totaled eight RBIs on the day. Keegan Soltis tallied four hits and three RBIs in the doubleheader, including a 3-for-4 showing in game one.

Millersville's record moved to 10-5, and Clarion's moved to 1-9.

GAME ONE
• Walks and errors plagued the Marauders in the game one loss. Of Clarion's seven runs scored, six of those runners reached base via walk or error. Two of the seven runs were unearned as Millersville committed two runs, and Clarion drew seven walks.
• After Clarion capitalized on two walks in the first inning, Millersville jumped back on top with a two-run homer from Caufield and a solo shot from Soltis in the third. Clarion, however, broke open the game in the fourth. The leadoff runner reached on an error, one run scored on a wild pitch, and late in the inning, Clarion scored its fourth on three hits on Millersville's second miscue of the inning.
• Millersville couldn't take advantage of its chances, stranding nine runners on base. Millersville had as many hits as Clarion. Soltis led the way with three.

GAME TWO
• Blankenbiller scored his first career victory with five shutout innings in which he allowed just one hit and one walk while striking out seven. Harry Prince and Zach Tukis also threw a scoreless inning apiece.
• Caufield again led a hit parade with a homer and single and five RBIs. Bren Taylor had three singles and drove in three runs. Soltis reached base three times with two walks and a double.
• Caufield's three-run homer put the Marauders up 4-0 in the third inning, and Millersville went on to score 11 of its 12 runs between the third and fifth innings.
