ABOUT THE MEET
The Marauders went 8-0 in the regular season, marking the first undefeated season in program history. This Wednesday through Saturday Millersville will look to expand on their historic season with a strong showing at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championship Meet.
In total, 10 of the 12 Marauders recorded PSAC qualifying times this season and will be participating in the four-day meet. Six of those Marauders are freshman, with three sophomores and one senior making the cut. This will be the first conference championship for the young core that is expected to carry the program over the next four years.
Millersville is looking to turn the corner with head coach Eric Usbeck who is in his third season at the helm of the program. The Marauders are coming off an eighth-place finish during the abbreviated 2020-21 campaign, which ties the best finish for the program since the 2008-09 season.
“Our goal is to finish out the season as we have been all year, keeping up the intensity, staying focused and strong,” Usbeck said. “I anticipate there are going to be a lot of good swims and there is always a chance to break school records and PRs that could occur.”
Millersville has never had a top five finish since full results were recorded starting in the 2004. Clarion (26) and West Chester (18) have dominated the meet since 1976, winning 44 of the 45 PSAC Championships. IUP has the lone win outside of that powerhouse duo.
Jordan Plempel remains a name to watch for the Marauders, as she set three program records during the regular season (200-IM 2:07.52) (100-Breast 1:06.70) (400-IM 4:35.40) as the freshman had a dominate performance against Franklin and Marshall back in November.
Senior Maddi Stoner also set a program record in that same meet, finishing the 200-Fly in 2:12.85. Carolyn Bolden rounded out the regular season program records for the Marauders, finishing the 200-Free in 1:54.65.
Millersville will look to translate their historic regular season into this week’s championship meet.
“We have a great opportunity to make some history for the program and get the job done,” Usbeck said.
Each Marauder will compete in four events, their personal best in those events are listed below. It is expected that several new PRs will be set throughout the meet.
