Millersville baseball announces signings on National Letter of Intent Day
11/8/2022 1:28:00 PM | Baseball
MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - The Millersville University baseball program has announced the signing of five high school seniors. The five future Marauders will join the program in the fall of 2023 after playing out their respective high school careers. The signing class includes outfielder Marco Pulizzi (Mountoursville High School), pitcher and infielder Tucker Chamberlin (Shippensburg High School), pitcher Brady Grimes (Cumberland Valley High School), middle infielder Nathan Lapp (Dock Mennonite Academy), and catcher Will Gisriel (Saint James School).
"After adding 10 freshmen and several transfers last year, the 2023 signing class is shaping up to be one of our smallest since I've been the head coach," said Millersville head coach Jon Shehan. "That said, we feel as though this class has some exciting players that fill some of our most important needs. The middle infield will need to be overhauled after the exits of players like Jimmy Losh, Thomas Caufield, and Tyler Wright. That leaves the door wide open for young current players like Jonathan Mallow and Taso Kovack and the signees in this class fill the voids. We also added some speed which has been lacking a bit. All three of the position players are above average runners. Finally, we feel like our pitching depth is in a great place so we were able to be picky and only take one arm in this class. One again, recruiting coordinator David Baker and pitching coach Ryan Kramer did an outstanding job finding quality talent and people that we feel will continue to keep Marauder baseball in contention at the conference, regional, and national level."
Millersville has won three-straight PSAC East titles and won the PSAC Tournament title in 2022. The Marauders have also qualified for the NCAA Atlantic Regional nine years in a row.
MARCO PULIZZI
Mountoursville Area High School
6-1 | 190 | Outfielder
Intended Major: Environmental Science
Why Millersville: "Because the coaching staff made me feel like I was wanted, and they cared about me. The campus made me feel at home and was somewhere I could see myself for the next four years."
About Pulizzi: Also competed in football and track...Played for coaches Jeremy Eck and Daren Stover.
Goals at Millersville: "My goal is to be a good player but a better teammate. I want to be the one to make everyone work harder and push everyone to be 1% better everyday."
Shehan's Scouting Report: "Marco is a highly competitive two-sport athlete with pro speed. He can fly. He utilizes that speed as an offensive player well. He has solid bat to ball skills and can bunt. We believe Marco can play center field—a need—but we'd prefer that all of our outfielders have that ability. Finally, Marco is a very good student and comes from a high school, Montoursville, with a baseball rich tradition."
TUCKER CHAMBERLIN
Shippensburg Area Senior High School
5'11 | 165 | Pitcher/Infield
Intended Major: Secondary History Education
Why Millersville? "I chose Millersville because the coaches made it feel like home and the development aspect in the baseball program really stood out to me."
About Chamberlin: A baseball and football standout for the Greyhounds, he was a an All-Mid-Penn Colonial Division honoree in both sports, including a first team selection at quarterback and the Colonial Division MVP in baseball...President's Award for Academic Excellence, High Honor Roll student and NHS Induction Award...Plays high school baseball for Brian Etter, and is a member of Chris Sellers' The Edge baseball team.
Goals at Millersville: "Become a beneficial starter on an everyday basis, win baseball games, and get drafted."
Shehan's Scouting Report: "Tucker is a two-way threat as a pitcher and middle infielder. He has a swing and miss breaking ball. Due to being an excellent high school quarterback, we feel he has the poise to compete in big games on the mound. Those quarterback skills typically lend to being excellent middle infielders too. Tucker brings athleticism and arm strength to a tradition rich position. We are excited about the real possibility of him impacting the program as a hitter as pitcher."
BRADY GRIMES
Cumberland Valley High School
6-7 | 230 | Pitcher
Intended Major: Sports business
Why Millersville? "I chose Millersville because it felt like home with all the coaches, players, and the campus. I also like the smaller size classes."
About Grimes: Plays for coaches Levi Mumma and David Prigden.
Goals at Millersville: "My goal is to improve the team's chemistry, to get everyone together and create stronger bonds, which will eventually make us better on the field and help us to win more games."
Shehan's Scouting Report: "Brady screams 'Millersville pitcher.' He is big, projectable, throws hard, throws strikes, and has very good secondary stuff. We also feel that he has some room to improve both mechanically and physically which is exactly what we are after. In order to produce ultra successful arms, we have to see things that we can help take them to the next level. Coach Kramer was really excited about Brady because the sky is the limit. As high as his ceiling could be, his stuff right now might be ready to compete in the PSAC."
NATHAN LAPP
Dock Mennonite Academy
5-11 | 165 | Middle Infielder
Intended Major: General business/athletic coaching
Why Millersville? "It was the best fit for me."
About Lapp: Named the school's male athlete of the year as a three-sport athlete, lettering in baseball, basketball and golf...Helped two different sports to district championships...Plays for Mike Connors and the PA Shockers.
Goals at Millersville: "To develop as a player, grow as a player and a person, win a championship, get a degree."
Shehan's Scouting Report: "Nathan comes from an excellent Christopher Dock program that has turned out some good college players over the past 10 or more years. He's another middle infielder that has the potential to be a dynamic offensive player. He's got the arm strength to player both middle positions. We really loved his aggression and competitiveness."
WILL GISRIEL
Saint James School
6-1 | 220 | Catcher
Intended Major: Computer Science
Why Millersville? "I chose Millersville because I feel that it is a great environment for me to improve as a player, a student, and as a person."
About Gisriel: An All-MAC First Team selection as a junior...Plays for Coach Rob Smetzer and Edge Baseball's Scott Biesecker...Also plays football.
Goals at Millersville: "My goal is to earn an opportunity at the next level for baseball."
Shehan's Scouting Report: "Will is a physical catcher--similar to John Seibert. He has arm strength and power but for a current high school linebacker--and he looks the part--Will is a smooth receiver behind the plate. As a hitter he he's got right-handed power which will play well at the Coop. With the exit of Cole Houser in another year, he will fill in nicely."
