Millersville set to host Rosemont on Friday afternoon

ABOUT THE GAME

  • The Millersville women’s basketball team is back in action at Pucillo Friday afternoon to take on Rosemont at 12 p.m. The Marauders opened the 2022-23 season by hosting the CIAA/PSAC Challenge last weekend with matches against Shaw University and Virginia Union. Millersville captured their opening game against Shaw but fell in a tough battle to Virginia Union for their second game of the tournament. The Marauders matchup with Rosemont will also include their first annual kids' game in collaboration with the School District of Lancaster.  

SCOUTING THE MARAUDERS

  • Millersville defeated Shaw University with a score of 59-41 to open the season. The Marauders held a 14-9 edge on second-chance points and their defense forced 24 Shaw turnovers. Millersville held the Bears to 34% in shooting on the floor and 17% from beyond the arc. In the 60-56 loss against Virginia Union, the Marauders totaled 28 points in the paint, compared to Virginia Union’s 20. The Panthers held a 17-10 edge over Millersville on second-chance points and Millersville went 20-52 for field goals and 2-of-10 for three-pointers.  
  • The Millersville offense is currently led by graduate student Taylor Langan with 37 points (18.5 avg). In her first two games in black-and-gold, Langan is shooting 45% from the floor and has grabbed 11 rebounds (5.5 avg). The freshman point-guard, Marin Miller, has made an immediate impact as a Marauder. Miller has totaled 21 points (10.5 avg) and has made four assists.  
  • Brenna Ortwein is leading the team in rebounds with 15 (7.5 avg) and has tallied three steals in her first two games. Millersville’s center, La’Shyra Williams, has grabbed 13 rebounds, seven of which were offensive. Williams also has blocked four shots this season. 

SCOUTING THE RAVENS

  • Rosemont has lost in all four of their games this season. Their closest match came against Penn State Abington, where the Ravens were dropped by a score of 79-67. Rosemont recently faced Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) on Wednesday Nov. 16, and fell by an 82-point deficit.  
  • The Ravens are averaging 46.3 points a game and are shooting 25% on the floor. Aalyssa Rogers is offensively leading the Ravens with 55 points (13.8 avg) and 11 steals, she averages 29.3 minutes a game. Britney Fils has grabbed 32 rebounds (8.0 avg), 18 of which were on defense.  

THE LAST TIME OUT

Millersville: Virginia Union 60, Millersville 56 (Nov. 13.) 

  • Millersville led the Panthers through the first three quarters, but all Virginia Union needed was the final 10 minutes to outscore the Marauders, 60-56.

Rosemont: IUP 102, Rosemont 20 (Nov.. 16) 

  • The Ravens were overpowered by an IUP offense. IUP limited Rosemont to making 8-52 field goals and attempting 17 three-pointers with only one make.
