LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Marauder libero
Becca Dalstad was named to the All-PSAC East second team by the conference coaches in a release Thursday afternoon.
Â
Dalstad is a first-time selection after putting together back-to-back impressive seasons under head coach
Brian Smith. This year, she ranked third in the PSAC with 482 digs, setting a new career high as she surpassed 400 digs for the second consecutive season.
Â
Dalstad entered the Millersville record books over the final matches of the season,
finishing her career with 1,218 digs, good for the eighth highest total in program history. She recorded double digit digs in 26 of the teams 29 matches this season, reaching a season high of 29 digs on Sept. 10 against Notre Dame (OH). Dalstad totaled 20 or more digs on five occasions. She proved to be a dual threat on offense in addition to her defensive accolades, as her 40 aces and 92 assists both ranked second on the team.
REACTION FROM HEAD COACH BRIAN SMITH
"I was very happy to receive the news about Becca being selected for a conference honor. She worked hard and deserves to be recognized as do some other Marauders I put forward. The success this 2022 team had was in large part based on our ability to pass and serve better than our opponents most of the year and Becca being our libero was a big part of that. So, it's fitting our libero is the sole Marauder selected by the conference coaches.
But when I reflect back on Becca's career here at the Ville it's going to be 10% of what she contributed on the court and 90% on what a remarkable young woman is has become. I've never coached a player at this level that had to face some much heartache and grief and handle it was such grace as Becca has had to endure. The loss of a best friend from high school and even tougher the loss of her beloved sister. We all have defining moments in life that make a tremendous impact on us but not at such a young age. Thankfully Becca has a strong support network and great parents.
Becca has been molded into a strong and independent young woman and our team benefited from her calm demeanor and her leadership. We jokingly refer to her as Boss Baby. I have to admit I've not seen those movies, but I get the reference.Â
Congrats Becca on a great career here at the 'Ville. Thanks for being a part of our lives and making an impact on mine."
