Volleyball splits DH for second straight day

WEST CHESTER, Pa. - The Millersville University volleyball team (2-2) split their double header on Saturday as the Marauders finished the Ram Fest Tournament with a .500 record.

HOW IT HAPPENED
In Game One (Millersville 3 – Goldey-Beacom 1)

Millersville dominated the first set, outscoring the Lightning 25-9. Ville led for the entire set, which was highlighted by a seven-point run early on.
The second set was a far different story, as Goldey-Beacom jumped out to a 3-0 lead. Despite separate streaks of five and six points, Millersville dropped the set 25-21, evening the match at 1-1.
Ville returned to form in the third and fourth sets, outscoring the Lightning 50-33 over the final two sets to secure the 3-1 match win.
The best Marauder run of the day came in the third set when Ville rattled off nine straight points to take a commanding 13-4 lead.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

Caitlyn Callahan led Ville with 13 kills.
Ville tallied 12 aces in the match, including a team high eight aces from Lauren Lucas.

HOW IT HAPPENED
In Game Two (Franklin Pierce 3 – Millersville 2)

Millersville once again took an early lead, winning the first two sets against the Ravens.
Franklin Pierce would win the final three sets to earn the reverse sweep, picking up a 3-2 win.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

Three of the five sets were decided by five points or fewer. The largest difference in score came in the second set, when Millersville picked up a 25-17 win.
Lauren Lucas led Ville with 15 kills.
Emma Ludwig recorded 52 assists in the match, her highest total of the weekend.

On the Goldey-Beacom Match

"In the three sets we won we have strong hitting numbers and passes above a 2.0 as a team. Good passing produces better hitting. In set two we passed poorly (1.5) and had a negative team hitting percentage (more hitting errors then kills). So we simply beat ourselves in the 2nd set. We fix it and cruised from there."

On the 12 aces against Goldey-Beacom

"We served pretty aggressive all weekend. Lauren's success in that match was they had a weak passer they tried to hide on the sideline, but Lauren's control enabled her to still target her and she took advantage of that weakness."

On Emma Ludwigs 52 assist match

"Emma's a very talented young setter and has very clean hands. I thought she had a very good opening weekend. The 52 sets really doesn't mean much as it was a five-set match and those numbers are indicative of a long, hard fought five setter. But that doesn't take away from a strong performance. Franklin Piece ultimately prevailed because they improved and sustained good ball control."
